I have been clear that fly‑tipping will no longer be tolerated in our borough, and I am pleased to share further action we are taking as part of our zero-tolerance approach to tackle this problem.

Today, I visited our CCTV control centre at Strand House to see first-hand how our expanded network of deployable cameras is helping us crack down on environmental crime.

Following the recent launch of our Caught on Camera website, we now have 19 deployable CCTV cameras across Croydon. These cameras are being installed in locations where residents have repeatedly raised concerns and where data shows persistent fly‑tipping, including Brigstock Road, Colliers Water Lane, Derby Road, Fairlands Avenue and Headcorn Road.

Last week, we carried out a major clean‑up of Belgrave Road car park in South Norwood, that has been repeatedly targeted by a small minority with no respect for the area. Working with our waste contractor, Veolia, we cleared dumped waste including white goods and mattresses, and our abandoned vehicles team removed nine untaxed vehicles.

This is one of the sites where cameras are being installed to improve security. Footage from these cameras will help us, and where appropriate, the Police, to identify the culprits and take firmer enforcement action, alongside our wider CCTV network which supports public safety and crime prevention. These measures will make a real and lasting difference, helping to deter offenders and restore pride in our neighbourhoods.

East Croydon Regeneration

This week I visited Dingwall Road and George Street to see the latest public realm improvements taking shape around East Croydon.

Part of more than £40m of investment in Croydon’s town entre, the scheme is creating safer crossings, improved cycling facilities, new cycle parking and more welcoming public spaces.

The redesigned roundabout on Dingwall Road and better links between East Croydon, George Street and Wellesley Road are helping to knit the town centre back together, bringing streets back to life and supporting Croydon’s night-time economy.

I am also continuing to pursue the commencement of work for the opening of the pedestrian through route on the bridge at East Croydon station.

It was particularly encouraging to see people already making use of the new spaces and to hear positive feedback about how the area is changing.

Get active at one of our new outdoor gyms

I was delighted to open a new outdoor gym at Upper Norwood Recreation Ground. It is a fantastic facility, designed with input from Croydon Calisthenics and residents building on designs used at the outdoor gym we opened at Addiscombe Recreation Ground in March. If you are local to Upper Norwood, I encourage you to come along and give it a try.

Carers Week 2026

We have also been marking Carers Week, with a range of activities signposting support for our thousands of carers who give so much to look after family and friends. Read Steve’s story about how he is being supported by our partner Carers First to care for his mother, who has Alzheimer’s. Please do seek out the support available if you are a carer. Find out more.

The Big Lunch

It was great to see our communities coming together for The Big Lunch, with the Council waiving street closure fees to support local street parties. I attended a wonderful event organised by Home‑Start Croydon and Croydon Drop‑In at Croydon Minster, featuring storytelling, creative workshops and even line dancing.

Art On Our Doorstep

Did you know Croydon’s Whitgift Centre will be transformed into an art gallery this weekend as we play host to our very own art fair? The event shines a spotlight on local artists whilst bringing more people into our town centre to enjoy everything Croydon has to offer.  Come along, support our artists and enjoy a fantastic weekend. Read the full listings here.

It’s coming home!

The FIFA World Cup is now under way, and I am looking forward to watching England in action. Croydon even has a special link to World Cup history – without Pickles the dog, who famously found the stolen trophy in 1966 in Upper Norwood, the World Cup story would be very different. We have marked this with a new town‑centre billboard on the High Street celebrating Pickles’ story.

I wish all residents an enjoyable tournament and good luck to our Palace players on the world stage, especially goalkeeper Dean Henderson who is in the England squad.

Have a great weekend.

Jason Perry
Executive Mayor of Croydon
