Following Thursday’s verdict, my first thoughts this week are with Elianne Andam’s family and friends. Elianne’s death was a tragedy that shocked our whole community. My heartfelt condolences go to everyone who knew her and will forever remember her. Croydon came together to mourn her loss, and we stand united against violence and its devastating consequences.

The London Growth Plan progress
This week, I met with other leaders in London to discuss the London Growth Plan, which is set to be launched in February. This joint initiative aims to drive economic development across the capital. The plan presents exciting opportunities for all Londoners by addressing economic inequality, boosting productivity, and ensuring that local economies, like ours in Croydon, are well-represented. We emphasised the importance of having a unified vision that reflects the unique contributions of all boroughs. I am proud to be part of shaping a prosperous future for London and Croydon.

New hospital diagnostic facility
This week, I chaired one of the regular public meetings for the One Croydon Health and Care Board and the CHS Trust Board. These meetings offer a wonderful opportunity to work with our NHS partners as we strive to promote good health and wellbeing for our residents while reducing health inequalities. It was exciting to read about the launch of a cutting-edge diagnostic facility at Croydon University hospital that provides the most modern, innovative, and efficient clinical blood science services in the country for patients here in Croydon.

New Gigs Grant to boost Croydon’s music scene
Following on from our hugely successful year as London Borough of Culture 2023, we’re building on our legacy and supporting the cultural sector with a new small grants scheme. Open to applications for up to £2,500 towards music events our Gigs Grants fund will celebrate Croydon’s rich music history and help to support our local venues. For more information please visit the Culture Croydon website.

Help during the colder months
As the weather turns colder this month, more residents may need to be aware of our Household Support Fund (HSF). This grant is a one-off award that could help people to pay for food, gas, and electricity. If residents are struggling financially, we’re encouraging those who are eligible to apply for the HSF to help pay for essential household living costs, if they are over 18 and on a low income. For more information, please visit the council website.

Have a good weekend.
