It has been just over 100 days since I took up office as your first elected Mayor of Croydon.
It has been an absolute privilege to work on behalf of all Croydon residents over the past few months, acting on the issues you have told me are important. Hopefully you will have seen that we’ve started to make some changes for Croydon – cleaning up our streets, reforming planning, improving our housing services, and regenerating the town centre – but there is more to do.
I have enjoyed meeting so many of you in my first 100 days and am determined to keep listening and involving you as we work to restore pride in our borough.
This week, I was pleased to meet members of our Indian community and join our Civic Mayor as we raised the Town Hall flag for Indian Independence Day, recognising the important contribution of our Indian communities to Croydon.
I also enjoyed visiting some of our summer holiday activities for local kids this week. Croydon is home to more under-18s than anywhere else in London and, together with our partners, we have an important role in keeping them safe and well through the holidays. It was wonderful to see such great uptake and engaged young people during my visits.
Finally, I would like to take a moment to congratulate all our students who received their A-level results and vocational or technical qualifications yesterday. Thanks to all parents, carers, and teachers who have supported our young people over the past two years.
We had some great results in the first set of end of year exams since before the pandemic but, if your results weren’t what you hoped for, don’t worry, there is support available from your school, college, and a range of other sources.
I wish all our students the best of luck for whatever you decide to do next, and good luck to those awaiting results next week.
