Mayor Perry – listening to Croydon

It was wonderful to hear that Owami Davies was found safe and well on Tuesday more than six weeks after she went missing. There will be important lessons to learn from how this investigation was handled, but the positive outcome was great news for everyone concerned. This must be a huge relief for her family and friends after what will have been an unimaginably stressful time.

We continue to move forward with our plans to make much-needed improvements to our housing services, and over the past few weeks our tenants and leaseholders have been joining workshops to share their views and ideas on how we can make things better.

Cllr Lynne Hale and I were fortunate enough to attend a session yesterday and it was great to see so many people getting involved and telling us about the improvements they want to see made. The workshops are ongoing and I would encourage council residents to sign up and have their say.

This week, I also joined our Civic Mayor outside the Town Hall to raise the flag for Ukraine Independence Day. This was a poignant reminder of the ongoing fight to retain Ukraine’s freedom. Six months on from the invasion of their country, Croydon continues to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people – more information on how the council is supporting Ukraine can be found on the council website.

It was the turn of our GCSE students to receive their exam results this week and I hope everyone received the grades they wanted. As a parent, I know how much work goes into these exams from young people, parents, carers, teachers and schools – you should all be proud of what you have achieved. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our students the best of luck as they prepare for sixth form, college, training and apprenticeships this autumn.

As we head into the bank holiday, I hope everyone gets a chance to take a break and enjoy the final days of August – and the school holidays!

Have a great weekend,

Jason Perry

Executive Mayor of Croydon
