As part of my zero‑tolerance approach to antisocial behaviour, I am pleased to share that we have secured a court order to close a rogue garage in Parchmore Road, Thornton Heath. Following complaints from residents and the removal of dangerous and untaxed vehicles, the court has ordered the premises to close for two months. We are now reviewing next steps and will continue to work with our partners to take firm action against illegal operations and antisocial behaviour. I encourage residents to report concerns so we can act quickly. Find out more.
Cleaner, safer borough
It is vital that the borough gets the best service and best value from our contractors as part of my priority to make our borough cleaner and safer. That is why this week I met with the regional executives from Veolia, who manage our waste service, and FM Conway, who maintain our highways, to make sure they are delivering on our contracts. We discussed raising standards, tackling fly‑tipping, improving street cleanliness and using innovative approaches, as part of my priority to deliver a cleaner, safer borough whilst securing better value for money for our residents.
Bringing new investment to Croydon
This week I attended the UKREiiF conference, the country’s largest annual event for the property and real estate sector. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet businesses from across the UK and beyond, and to showcase the many strengths Croydon has to offer, from our excellent transport connections to our talented and diverse young workforce. As I begin my second term as Mayor, I remain optimistic about Croydon’s future and fully committed to attracting investment, creating jobs and boosting our local economy. Dementia Action Week
It is Dementia Action Week (18–24 May), which is a chance to raise awareness and share information to make sure our residents know where to get support. If you or a loved one is affected by dementia, support is available through Croydon Dementia Action Alliance and the Alzheimer’s Society. We are working to make Croydon a more dementia‑friendly borough – find out more.
Surprised! in Croydon
Last weekend, Croydon was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Asian arts, creativity and community during the Surprised! festival last weekend. The town centre streets felt alive with music and dance. From traditional performances to more contemporary sets, it was wonderful to see so many people stopping, watching and getting involved. Thanks to all the performers and to everyone who took part in the events.
Good luck to the Eagles
As a proud Crystal Palace fan, I am delighted that the Eagles have reached the UEFA Conference League Final, where we will face Rayo Vallecano at the Leipzig Stadium on Wednesday. After our fantastic FA Cup and Community Shield wins at Wembley last year, it would be amazing to bring home more silverware to Selhurst Park and lift our first European trophy. I wish the team all the very best of luck for the final and I hope all fans travelling to the game have a safe and enjoyable trip.
With an amber heat health warning in place, please do take care in the sun, stay hydrated and look out for one another.
Wishing everyone a happy Bank Holiday weekend.
Jason Perry
Executive Mayor of Croydon
