I spent much of this week meeting community groups and residents across the borough. As Croydon’s Executive Mayor, it is always a privilege to hear directly about the positive work people are doing in their areas.

I started the week celebrating Renew New Addington’s (ReNA) one-year anniversary. They are doing great work to bring their community together and tackle local issues such as youth crime and antisocial behaviour. It was humbling to hear testimonies of the work that has been undertaken and a pleasure to celebrate their achievements with so many community partners.

On Tuesday, I attended Kenley and District Residents’ Association’s (KENDRA) latest meeting to listen to local people and answer their questions on issues they’re facing locally, including around planning and graffiti.

I also discussed my vision for Croydon with local businesses at the Southeast London Chamber of Commerce, answering their questions about attracting inward investment and our exciting plans for town centre regeneration.

We had some great news this week with funding from the Forestry Commission, meaning we can plant 370 new trees in our borough. We are also extending our Trees for Streets programme to plant an additional 110 trees – making local areas healthier and more vibrant. Many residents have already sponsored their own trees through this scheme, creating a lasting legacy for their community.

Ignite Fund applications are now open for local artists and cultural organisations to get directly involved in our London Borough of Culture plans. The latest round offers medium sized grants of up to £10,000 for community led projects. Full details are on our website – apply now and take part in an unforgettable year for Croydon.

Have a good weekend.
