This week I joined our Pothole Patrol to see first-hand how crews are repairing reported potholes within seven days. The patrol achieved excellent results earlier this year and helped us fill more than 3,000 potholes across Croydon since January.

Caught on Camera

We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping as part of my commitment to restore pride in Croydon. This week, our Caught on Camera campaign published footage of three people we want to speak to about waste dumped in Colliers Water Lane.

Four new outdoor gyms

We are introducing four new outdoor gyms during the next year at Mayfield Road Playground, Grange Park, Ashburton Playing Fields and South Norwood Recreation Ground.

This builds on the three new gyms recently installed at Upper Norwood Recreation Ground, Higher Drive Recreation Ground and Selsdon Recreation Ground, with another at South Norwood Lakes due to be completed next month.

It is part of my commitment to deliver four new playgrounds and four new outdoor gyms every year until 2030, helping residents across Croydon lead healthier and more active lives.

Standing up for Croydon’s motorists

This week I met representatives of the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association, to discuss the issues affecting Croydon’s black cab drivers and other road users.

We discussed our new Pothole Patrol service, the forthcoming review of 20mph roads, improved access to School Streets for black cabs and plans for our first Motorists’ Forum in September. The forum will bring together representatives from TfL, the emergency services, residents’ associations and other organisations to help make travelling around Croydon safer and easier.

Growing Croydon’s creative industries

I recently visited Croydon-based post-production studio Disauthority, where I met founder and managing director Marcus Hundsnes and the talented team working across every aspect of post-production.

It was exciting to hear how the company is using Croydon’s creative edge to build a growing reputation across the global film and television industry. Through my CRO-llywood working group, I want to explore how the council can help businesses like Disauthority grow and create more opportunities in this important sector.

Staying safe in the heat

Another heatwave hit London this week, alongside the announcement that the capital is experiencing drought conditions. We all need to use water carefully, follow the hosepipe ban affecting Thames Water customers and help reduce the risk of wildfires.

Last weekend, London Fire Brigade responded to more than 1,300 incidents during the hot weather, including a grass fire in Wandle Park. Please do not use barbecues in parks, public spaces or on balconies, and always dispose of cigarettes safely.

Croydon Pride 2026

We were appalled and saddened by the attack at Berlin Pride on Saturday, and our thoughts are with everyone affected.

As Croydon Pride returns on Saturday 15 August, we want to reassure all those attending that we are working with the organisers and Croydon Police to keep everyone attending safe.
