Mayor Perry – listening to Croydon

Its great news for Croydon that we have been selected as one of six national frontrunners to lead a new government pilot to free up hospital beds.

Our council social care and NHS teams will receive a £800k cash injection to build on the strong partnership work that they already do to care for people in their own homes after a hospital stay.

This will help to ease pressure on our hospital, so that everyone can access urgent care when they need it. Well done to all our council workers and NHS partners – this is recognition of the excellent care you provide for our residents.

In other health news, it was a huge privilege to open the refurbished Moorfields eye unit at Croydon University Hospital this week, and to meet the teams that treat over 200 patients a month in this day unit. It is wonderful that we have this specialist facility here in our borough.

When I became Mayor I promised to make listening to residents a priority, and in the coming weeks I’ll be launching a series of roadshows, hosting Mayor’s Question Times in locations across the borough. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to hear from you on the issues that matter – we’ll be sharing details as soon as they are available.

Saturday is the start of the Tamil harvest festival Thai Pongal, and I want to wish a Happy Pongal to everyone celebrating. January is Tamil Heritage Month and an opportunity for us all to celebrate our own Tamil community here in Croydon and the contribution they make. I look forward to attending Thai Pongal events over the coming weekends.

Have a great weekend

Jason Perry

Executive Mayor of Croydon
