Mayor Perry – listening to Croydon

At the first cabinet meeting of the new administration this week, I was pleased to move forward with some important changes I know residents want to see. From progressing the removal of the planning guide that has caused concern in local communities, to making sure our council tenants and leaseholders are treated with respect and receive a proper service, my cabinet and I are listening to residents and acting on the issues that matter to them.

This week I have been proud to attend events honouring the contributions of so many to our life in Croydon.

On Armed Forces Day we showed our support for Croydon’s armed forces and their families. From our veterans to our cadets, we owe them so much – it is their sacrifices, past and present, that have won us the freedoms we take for granted every day. On behalf of everyone in Croydon, I thank them all.

On Windrush Day I joined our Civic Mayor in celebrating members of our Windrush community and their descendants. As they raised the Windrush Day flag at Croydon Town Hall it was important to recognise that ‘we are standing on their shoulders’. Croydon is proud to be home to one of London’s largest Windrush communities and we will always be grateful for their rich contributions to the life of our borough.

This weekend I am looking forward to celebrating Croydon’s Food & Music Festival, which will see people from near and far enjoying alfresco dining, street food, cocktails, and live entertainment in the heart of Croydon. I hope as many of you as possible will be able to enjoy the fun!

Jason Perry – Executive Mayor of Croydon
