Mayor Perry – listening to Croydon

It’s been one year since Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died. She touched so many lives here in Croydon and further afield during her many years of devoted service. On the first anniversary of her passing, we are still so grateful for her contribution to the nation and she remains fondly in our hearts.

Question Time

I was delighted to take questions at my latest Croydon Mayor’s Question Time in Norbury this week. I answered questions on a wide range of topics including finances, regeneration, community safety and green spaces. It was also a great opportunity to update residents on the ‘blitz’ clean up held in Norbury this summer as part of an initiative to restore pride in Croydon. Cleaning up fly-tipping, graffiti and pavements has already yielded positive results, with an 84% reduction in reported flytips in Norbury since the ‘blitz’ began. We will continue to work with residents and businesses to make our town and district centres more attractive. This was just the first of the blitz sessions – we’ll be announcing more in the weeks to come, so follow us on social media for updates.

Purley Pool

Representatives from Residents Associations in Purley came together on Wednesday to hear from developer Polaska about their designs for a new swimming pool, later living housing development and public realm improvements in the heart of the town. The developer is working with the Council as the local planning authority on the designs before a planning application is submitted. I pledged to bring a pool back to Purley and I’m pleased that we are making progress and that Purley residents are being involved as part of this process. There will be more opportunities to take part in engagement sessions this Autumn.

London Borough of Culture

With the warm weather set to continue, this weekend is a great opportunity to enjoy some of the fantastic local events we have for our year as London Borough of Culture. This weekend will feature Purley Festival, Thornton Heath Festival, Grangewood Park Picnic and Open House – and if you haven’t done it already, the music heritage and giraffe trails in Croydon town centre are great fun for all ages – see the website for more details.
