Croydon has successfully doubled the number of parks in the borough that can fly the prestigious Green Flag.

Thanks to the work of volunteers, Friends of Parks groups, council officers and partners, four parks – Coulsdon Memorial Ground, Happy Valley, Wandle Park and Wettern Tree Garden– have all been recognised and rewarded as some of the best parks and green spaces in the UK.

The awards, which come from charity Keep Britain Tidy, follows significant investment in Croydon’s parks and green spaces.

Improvements have seen better schedules for grass cutting, upgraded playgrounds, and new paths, making them more accessible for all residents.

Croydon is home to over 120 parks and green spaces that play an important role in helping residents and communities keep active and boost wellbeing.

Investment in and improvements to the borough’s parks is one of the Executive Mayor’s priorities to make Croydon cleaner, safer and healthier.

“Thank you to everyone who has played a part in looking after Croydon’s parks and green spaces.

“Doubling the number of Green Flags flying across the borough is a great achievement. To be great places they need a lot of love and care, and we are so thankful for our many Friends Groups and volunteers who support our officers and partners and work together to keep them looking great.

“Our parks and green spaces make Croydon special, and it’s a great achievement that more of them have now been awarded with Green Flags.

“We will continue to work hard and invest in our parks to help restore pride in Croydon.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
