More time to have your say on children’s centres proposals

The consultation on Croydon Council’s proposals for the future delivery model of children’s centres in the borough has been extended to 20 June.

This will allow more people the opportunity to partake in the survey asking for residents’ feedback on plans to focus the service around a new children’s centres model based on three hubs and outreach known as spokes.

The proposal would mean one main children’s centre hub in the north of the borough, one in central Croydon and another in the south – each delivering a full programme of services.

Each area’s hub would have two smaller centres nearby, or spokes, based on where there is most need and transport links to deliver a smaller programme offer with additional outreach to other community venues.

Under these new proposals, health visits for young children and their parents to midwives and health visitors would continue to be delivered from children’s centres.

The proposal would stop delivering children’s centre services at Shirley and de-designate Purley Oaks children’s centres as a main hub. Instead, local families would also be able to receive outreach support near home via other community-run buildings and their new local children’s centre main hub.

“We have extended the consultation closing date because we want to hear from more residents about our plans for the children’s centres, so that you can help us shape this much-valued service.

“To ensure the responses are as representative of our borough as possible we are particularly interested in hearing from more residents in north Croydon, fathers, fathers-to-be, male carers and parents under 30.”

“Services for parents and carers with young children remain our absolute priority and we have tried to come up with a proposal that meets the needs of as many of our residents as possible within the financial funding envelope that is available.”

The survey will help inform a final decision to be made by the council’s cabinet over the summer.

To respond to the consultation, visit the council website before midnight on 20 June. For a hard copy of the survey, or in other formats or languages, call 020 8760 5453.
