The next area to benefit from a Croydon Council “blitz clean” is New Addington – with an intensive programme of works starting this week to restore pride in the popular district centre.

Over the next three weeks, the council’s blitz clean squad will be in Central Parade and the surrounding area to deliver a deep cleanse, with fly-tips cleared, old street furniture and planters removed, and new posts installed to prevent illegal parking.

New Addington’s clean-up has been designed using feedback from residents, local businesses, residents’ group, and Pathfinders, who have told the council about the issues they are experiencing and what they need sorting.

During the ‘blitz clean’, the council will be working with local businesses and residents to provide advice on how to keep the area looking its best after the clean-up. Everyone can play their part by reporting issues such as fly-tipping, graffiti and overflowing bins via Love Clean Streets.

The Love Clean Streets app can be used on smartphones or users can access it on a browser from a home computer, via the council website.

“Our previous ‘blitz cleans’ have shown that when we address the ‘broken window’ effect by making an area look better, it gets less fly-tipping and litter and has a positive impact on residents’ lives.

“We have listened to what residents want us to focus on during the three weeks and I am looking forward to seeing the results.

“We are asking all residents and businesses in the area to get behind the clean-up and do their bit to keep it looking clean afterwards. We are inviting businesses to pledge to be responsible for their waste, and residents to do their bit to keep their neighbourhood looking its best, by disposing of their waste responsibly when they are out and when they are at home.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon

“New Addington Pathfinders welcomes the council’s ‘blitz clean’ coming to New Addington.

“We are looking forward to building on our relationship and working with the council to make our streets cleaner and reduce fly-tipping.

“Cleaner, safer streets is something we will all welcome and I hope the local community will do their bit.”

Marion Burchell, Chair of New Addington Pathfinders
