Crystal Palace Football Club is putting its weight behind a drive to encourage local organisations to keep children and vulnerable adults in Croydon safe from harm or abuse.
Teaming up with Croydon’s multi-agency adults’ and children’s safeguarding boards and Croydon Council, the club is hosting a workshop on 5 July 2017 for businesses to find out how they can contribute.
“Whether we are talking about children or adults, safeguarding is about protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights. It means enabling them to live their lives free from harm, abuse and neglect. Safeguarding is absolutely fundamental to high-quality health and social care. This is everybody’s responsibility, and local employers have a big part to play in making sure their staff understand what they can and should do to prevent anyone from coming to harm.”

The premiership club has always taken its safeguarding responsibilities very seriously, particularly with regard the work it does with young people. The newly launched ‘Triple C Partnership’ (made up of CPFC, Croydon’s safeguarding boards, and Croydon Council) will take this a step further by combining the skills, expertise, networking and business links of all three organisations.
The message from the partnership will not only be about keeping people safe, but also about looking for ways to give everyone the best opportunities possible.
Sarah Baker, independent chair of both Croydon’s adults’ and children’s safeguarding boards is delighted at the initiative, saying: “This partnership brings together influential partners from across Croydon and demonstrates everyone’s commitment to safeguarding children and adults at risk.”
The work of the partnership has already been ‘kicked off’ with CPFC and its Foundation making a commitment to train all of their staff, stewards and players to the enhanced Level 2 Safeguarding standard. The club already gives a three-hour induction in safeguarding to all new recruits, but this enhanced training will involve a full day of workshops and tutorials.
Aimed at business leaders and strategic decision makers, the 5 July workshop will include a tour of the Selhurst Park stadium and will provide details of how the businesses can access free accredited training.
CPFC Chief Executive, Phil Alexander said: “This is another example of the club working in conjunction with Croydon Council to bring the community together, and this important project will see us all co-operating to raise awareness of safeguarding issues across the borough. The club is delighted to be hosting the launch event and it’s really a great opportunity for us to share ideas and learn more about how we can achieve the aim of having a secure and quality workplace.”
