New Fairfield Halls operator to be announced soon

The future of Fairfield Halls came a step closer this week as the council published a notice in advance of the formal announcement of the new operator for the soon-to-be-refurbished venue.

Over the last few months proposals from a range of potential bidders have been scrutinised by a panel of professionals and the council is now in the final legal stages of announcing its decision.

The panel, which included senior officers in culture, district centre regeneration, estates and asset management, and procurement – as well as an independent commercial advisor, made its recommendation based on the wide range of factors specified in the tender pack.

“We’re now into the final few days before we can legally announce our decision. I know there is a lot of speculation on social media right now, people are really keen to learn who will be running the Fairfield Halls in the future and I’d love to be able to make the announcement today. However, we have to wait until 21 April as part of the legal procurement process.

“What I can say is that we are all very excited by the proposals that have been put forward by an operator who is enthusiastic about playing an active role in our community and delivering for Croydon; who shares our vision for Fairfield as the cultural heart of Croydon; is determined as we are ensure it is accessible to all; and is committed to developing and providing opportunities for new artistic talent within a financially sustainable business model.”
