New outdoor gym comes to Norbury Park

Those looking to make a healthy start to 2020 are set to benefit from new outdoor gym equipment recently installed at Norbury Park.

A new Outdoor Active Space in Norbury Park has been installed and is set to be unveiled at a special opening event at 10.30am on Saturday 11 January, where there will be demonstrations and taster sessions on all of the equipment.

The free-to-use gym is one of five active spaces jointly funded by the council and The Matt Palmer Trust, a non-profit organisation supporting the mental wellbeing of people of all ages in the UK and Ireland.

Local residents and park users were given the opportunity to help decide the Outdoor Active Space’s location and the type of equipment included.

“Outdoor gyms offer excellent free fitness opportunities for residents and I’m happy to see this facility open in Norbury Park.

“Well done to the residents who contacted us and worked with us to help create this facility.

“We want everyone to have the chance to lead healthy and happy lives across all of Croydon and I’m delighted Norbury residents will be able to benefit from this new facility.”

Councillor Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport

Jessica Bulman, PR manager at the trust, said: “The Matt Palmer Trust is incredibly proud to have been involved in building five outdoor gyms in the Croydon area.

“We’re really pleased that Norbury will benefit from this great outdoor space and hope it helps to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of people in the community.”

There are now a total of ten outdoor gyms across the borough. For information on where to find your nearest Outdoor Active Space go online.
