Residents who want to make healthy changes in their lives this year can get support in Croydon to stop smoking, drink less alcohol and eat better.

The Council’s Live Well Croydon service has advice to help residents lead healthier lives and is available throughout the year. This means people can begin their health improvement journey whenever they are ready, not just in January.

Live Well Croydon supports Executive Mayor Perry’s priority to create a cleaner, safer and healthier borough. The service offers residents self-help materials and signposts to organisations with additional healthy lifestyle advice.

People can complete a health assessment to see if they can receive one-to-one support from a Live Well Croydon Adviser.

Smokers in Croydon are more likely to kick the habit with help from a local stop smoking service and, for a limited time, the Smoke Free app is offering enhanced support to help people quit.

Anyone who wants to cut down on alcohol can get information from Live Well Croydon about monitoring drinking habits, drink free days, and how alcohol can affect someone’s mood.

There are also free tools to reduce alcohol consumption and support from alcohol treatment specialists at DrinkCoach Croydon. People can now sign up to the DrinkCoach January challenge and take part in wine free Wednesdays, socials sips and glass half full tasks to meet health goals.

“There is lots of support in Croydon to help residents to lead a happy and healthier New Year. January is a time when lots of people focus on making positive lifestyle changes. Live Well Croydon and other local support services are available all year round, so you can start your journey to better health whenever it suits you best.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon

Croydon resident, Aida, successfully quit smoking with support from Live Well Croydon: “I’m surprised I quit. I smoked for 52 years, and I didn’t think I was going to do it, but with help from a Live Well Croydon adviser it was easy. She was so gentle and kind helping me think ahead one step at a time – she believed I could do it!

“There were so many quitting products to choose from and she helped me choose Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) patches and a mouth spray. I used to smoke about 15 cigarettes a day and I am saving a lot of money which has helped me so much with all the bills. I would recommend the mouth spray to anyone, it really helped with my cravings. Please thank her again for all her help, I am so grateful.”
