Following successful community engagement sessions in Grangewood Park, the final design for a new playground has been produced and the on-site works are scheduled to begin in May.
The improvements to Grangewood Park come as part of a wider investment programme that will see the installation of five new local playgrounds across the borough, from the £500,000 Playground Investment Programme (PIP).
Following feedback from residents at the community engagement sessions in December, the updated design includes a ‘You & Me’ swing for an adult and child, a shopfront playhouse and the re-use of the existing ‘heritage’ springer – an old favourite of many youngsters.
To complete the works, Grangewood Park will be closed for a period of four weeks. The council has set an estimated completion date in time for the summer half term.
Plans to follow the successful engagement sessions in Grangewood Park at the next four sites are currently underway, with the engagement sessions for Northwood Road playground and Addington Park playground scheduled to take place in late May. The engagement sessions for Northborough Road playground and Ashburton Park, will be arranged for late June.
Alongside the major improvements to the five above playgrounds, the council’s parks and green spaces team have continued to make many smaller but important improvements within the 94 recreational areas in Croydon parks. This includes over £100,000 already spent on surfacing and equipment works at 27 sites, with more planned for this spring.
