Croydon Council has been supporting residents of Zodiac House after a power outage on Tuesday (8 September 2026) led to the building being evacuated.
We immediately arranged hotel accommodation for residents. Demand for hotels was exceptionally high due to air traffic control issues at major airports, so we also opened an emergency rest centre to make sure everyone had a safe place to stay.
We have now secured temporary accommodation for all Zodiac House residents who were staying at the rest centre.
Contractors are continuing to assess the situation and are working to restore power. The cause of the outage is being investigated.
Extra security measures are in place while the building is vacant.
We continue to provide support to effected residents and thank them for their patience whilst we make the necessary repairs.
