Share your views on school exclusions and Croydon’s Fair Access Panel

Pupils’, parents’ and teachers’ views on school exclusions are being sought by a task and finish group (TFG) set up by the council’s Children and Young People Scrutiny Sub-Committee.

The committee is taking an in-depth look at issues related to school exclusions, the council’s Fair Access Panel and off-rolling, which is when a pupil is removed from the school roll without being formally and permanently excluded and when the removal is primarily in the school’s interests rather than that of the pupil.

To inform their final report, which will be published in May, the group are seeking the views and experiences of Croydon pupils, parents, teachers, education professionals, community groups and anyone else connected to the issues related to school exclusions.

Personal views and experiences can be sent in writing to the chairman of the TFG or, if preferred, the group is available to meet in person on 5, 6, 7, 13,14, 20 and 21 February. Although appointments on these dates are during the day, evening sessions can be arranged on request.

Councillor Jerry Fitzpatrick, chair of the task and finish group, said: “We want to hear your voice and we shall listen to it carefully and respectfully. Whether you are a pupil, a parent or a teacher, you will be heard in a fair and kind manner. Your participation will make a difference so please do get involved.”

To share your views and experiences, or to request to attend a meeting on one of the above or an alternative date, please email jerry.fitzpatrick@croydon.gov.uk by 28 February.
