Supporting Croydon’s businesses during ongoing Covid-19 uncertainty

Croydon Council is working to deliver more financial support to local businesses which continue to face uncertainty due to Covid-19.

Following the council’s call to government for further financial support for businesses and the announcement from government on 21 December, the council has now received £1.68m in funding to deliver the Omicron grant to local hospitality and leisure businesses. Grants of up to £6,000 are available for eligible businesses with the amount determined by the business property rateable value.

To apply, businesses must complete the online application form before 28 February 2022. A link to the form and guides for how to complete the form can be found on the council’s website.

In addition, £250,000 will go to businesses in the creative industry to help with a loss of income. £5,000 grants will be awarded to creative businesses with fixed property costs who have experienced a loss of income of at least 10%. Applications are now open and grants will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

With all grant application forms, businesses are asked to ensure all information and evidence needed is provided to avoid any delays.

Croydon businesses can also benefit from the Back to Business Fund to which the council has contributed £200,000 of funding received from government. Local businesses could receive up to £10,000 in match funding as a result of creative crowdfunding, encouraging customers to support them by using Pay It Forward – paying for goods and services in advance.

The council is also offering one-year memberships with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), to support its small businesses with a wide range of services and advice on legal issues, health and safety and HR and business banking, as well as networking opportunities. Interested businesses can email economic.development@croydon.gov.uk for more information.

“As a council we are continuing to do everything we can to support our local businesses. With the end of last year proving to be quieter than usual for most, and footfall not improving so far this new year, they really do need our backing.

“While we continue to prioritise the businesses that need funding most with the money we receive from central government, I do encourage you to continue to support our much-loved businesses. Visit them when you can, and if possible support those crowdfunding by checking out the fantastic offers available for buying services in advance.”
