There is still time to register to vote for Croydon’s councillors and first elected mayor

Eligible Croydon residents have until midnight this Thursday (14 April) to register to vote in upcoming local elections on 5 May.

Registering to vote is an incredibly quick and easy process which takes approximately 5 minutes – register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

On 5 May 2022, voters will head to the ballot box to vote for 70 ward councillors to represent their local area. For the first time ever, Croydon residents will also vote for an elected mayor to represent the borough. Residents must be registered to take part and vote in the election.

Croydon’s elected mayor will lead the council and represent the whole of Croydon, one of the largest political mandates of any elected politician in London, speaking up for us all locally, nationally and internationally.

Information about the roles and responsibilities of an elected mayor is available on the council’s mayoral webpages.

If you are already registered for your current address you do not need to register again to vote in this year’s elections. However, if you have recently moved house or changed name you will need to re-register.

Voters across Croydon recently received their poll cards, which include details of their local polling station as well as other useful information. There are a few different ways to vote – in person, by post, or by proxy:

  • The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 19 April. Please visit the website and download a postal vote application form. The form must be fully completed and signed and can be returned either by post or email.
  • To vote by proxy, you must apply to do so by 5pm on 26 April. You can download or print a proxy vote application form on our website. Your fully completed form can be returned by post or email.
  • If you do not have access to a printer, you can request the above forms in the post by emailing services@croydon.gov.uk or phoning 0300 373 0595.

More information on this year’s elections, including a list of all candidates, can be found at www.croydon.gov.uk/elections2022.

You can also apply for the council’s weekly e-bulletin to get updates. Please follow this link and sign up.

“If you have never voted or are new to Croydon, there is still time to register to take part in upcoming local elections. The quickest way to register is through an easy online form, which only takes around 5 minutes to complete. It is everyone’s democratic right to vote and I would encourage all residents to take part in selecting Croydon’s first elected mayor and ward councillors this May.”
