Multi-agency action by Croydon’s town centre taskforce, to clear fly-tipping hotspots and tackle antisocial behaviour, is keeping our borough cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone.
Recent activity has seen the taskforce quickly respond to reports from residents about antisocial behaviour and items building up in Factory Lane car park (also known as Pitlake). This made the area unsafe for people living nearby and drivers using this facility.
The Council, police, housing and drug and alcohol treatment outreach services engaged with those involved in antisocial behaviour to prevent issues from happening again.
Another site clearance this year has taken place in the passageway between Lamberts Place and Bridge Place, under Windmill Bridge, after residents reported issues about ongoing issues creating a mess and making it unpleasant for the public to use.
The area was cleared of the items and new lighting is now proposed to be installed in the passageway.
Both sites will be regularly monitored by town centre taskforce partners, and further swift action will be taken if needed to keep those areas clean and safe.
Croydon’s town centre taskforce includes the Council, businesses, police, children’s and youth engagement services, the community, voluntary and health sectors, and homeless and rough sleepers’ outreach support teams.
“Croydon’s town centre taskforce is working on delivering faster and more coordinated responses to local issues. It is always concerning to hear about the distress and disruption caused by antisocial behaviour, which can blight local communities. Our aim is to keep our borough cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone, and ensure those involved in antisocial behaviour are offered ongoing support to prevent issues from reoccurring.”
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
