Thousands of Croydonians came together on Monday to celebrate Crystal Palace Football Club’s successful FA Cup win by lining the streets surrounding Selhurst Park, for the victory trophy parade.
Arrangements for the event, which saw CPFC players travel by open-top bus down Whitehorse Lane, were arranged by the Club working with the Council, Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and others to organise and make sure everyone was kept safe.
Council teams from community safety to highways, events to parking, all helped with the planning. From making sure road closures were in place to removing vehicles blocking the route of the parade, the effort resulted in an electric parade enjoyed by all.
The Council’s waste contractor, Veolia, cleared 3.5 tonnes of waste from the streets – the equivalent of around 550 FA Cups! The monumental clean up effort cleared litter from the roads and pavements along Whitehorse Lane, before and after the parade helping residents and fans enjoy the day.
A huge thanks goes to all involved in organising the event and clean up, and to everyone who joined the celebrations for bringing the most fantastic spirit and energy.
“It was amazing seeing the FA Cup being paraded in Croydon, a sight many of us Crystal Palace fans never thought would happen.
“Events like this require a lot of planning with many people behind the scenes working long hours to make sure it was such a memorable day.
“Thank you to all the Council officers, Veolia, emergency services and all other partners who helped make this dream come true.”
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
