Get ready to vote – poll cards on their way to Croydon residents

Registered voters in Croydon started to receive their poll cards over the Easter weekend ahead of the Mayor of London and London Assembly (GLA) elections on 2 May.

Additional poll cards have been sent to residents in Woodside, and Park Hill and Whitgift wards for the Croydon Council by-elections also taking place on 2 May.

This year’s poll cards are in the form of A4 letters and include an important reminder to bring photo ID to vote at polling stations on election day due to the changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022. Polling letters cannot be used as ID to vote.

Photo ID must be the original ID and not a photocopy and have the same name as that used to register to vote. An expired ID is acceptable so long as the individual is still recognisable from the photo. Voters without a photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.

The council encourages voters to review the details of their polling station before heading out to vote, as it may have changed. You can also use the online polling station finder.

Information about the candidates standing for Woodside, and Park Hill and Whitgift wards including the London Mayoral and GLA election are all on the council’s webpages.

Residents not yet registered to vote must do so by midnight 16 April to vote in the elections. Register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Other registration deadlines are 5pm 17 April to vote by post, 5pm 24 April to vote by proxy and to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (an ID that can be used at polling stations).

To request paper application forms in the post, or to make changes to your existing voting arrangements, email electoral.services@croydon.gov.uk or call 0300 373 0595.

“There is still time to register if you’re voting for the first time or have recently moved to Croydon. It’s quick and easy.”

“Please check you’ve got a photo ID so you can vote at a polling station. If not, please apply for the free Voter Authority Certificate on the council’s website before 24 April.”

Katherine Kerswell, Returning Officer, Croydon Council
