More town centre regeneration workshops planned for April and May

Croydon Council is continuing with a programme of workshops to inform the future regeneration of the town centre, offering residents, businesses and partners the opportunity to get involved.

The council is creating the Town Centre Regeneration Strategy to underpin the town centre’s regeneration over the next 15 years. Croydon’s community groups, residents and businesses will be key to shaping Croydon’s vision.

During the first series of workshops, participants were asked to explore and imagine the future of Croydon town centre. They were led in discussions through drawing, mapping and modelling to reflect on their own experiences of the town centre and what they would like to see in the future.

There were over 650 responses to the ‘Croydon Town Centre: Have your say’ survey, designed by locals as part of the workshops.

The next series of events and an exhibition will be held during April and May. The engagement sessions guide participants through creative activities, look at shared priorities and test ideas for potential changes that could improve and support the town centre. The workshops will be at Croydon Urban Room, with some venturing out into North End and the surrounding areas. The next events are:

  • Saturday 27 April, 11am-3pm, Roots and Routes – Setting the Scene in Croydon, led by Lina Ivanova. Join a creative workshop combining photography, artificial intelligence (AI) and ceramics to test out ideas to improve Croydon town centre’s built environment.
  • Friday 3 May, 4-6pm, Truth Be Told: Building Our Croydon, led by Melody Akanji. A workshop all about giving the people of Croydon the tools and a platform to shape the future of the town centre.
  • Saturday 4 May, 11am-3pm, Please Dream Responsibly – a Croydon Reimagining, led by RESOLVE Collective. Find out how decisions about the town centre are made and have the opportunity to influence the regeneration strategy.

‘Croydon’s Future Spaces’ is an interactive display at Croydon Urban Room which, alongside the workshops, offers visitors the opportunity to test and shape the vision for their town centre. It will run from 17 April to 25 May, on Tuesdays, and Thursdays to Saturdays, 10am – 5pm.

“We are developing a vision for a vibrant and welcoming town centre where people want to live, work and visit. It’s really important that our residents, businesses and partners are involved so do sign up to a workshop. The regeneration of the town centre is a priority in my Business Plan 2022-2026 and I look forward to hearing the wide range of views put forward.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
