

Life is what you bake it for Matthew Grossett! The owner of the South Norwood micro bakery, Walnuts & Honey, is stuffed full of imaginative recipes to ensure his customers can eat a different cake every day of the month if they so wish.
“I make pastries and wedding cakes but my main thing is elaborately flavoured cupcakes,” he said. “I do different batches every day so you are always guaranteed something unusual or exotic such as a spiced chamomile and fig sponge! People can drop by for a coffee in my socially-distanced café/bakery and try something new.”
During the Covid crisis Matthew had to temporarily close the bakery for passing trade but he was kept very busy due to the amount of deliveries requested by his sweet-toothed community.
“The locals are really what keep me going,” he said. “And shopping local is so important, not just the commerce of it, but having that personal connection on a human level. I try and shop local as much as possible and like to keep my shopping in South Norwood.”
His bakery is open from 10am to 3pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays.
