Croydon’s Town Centre Taskforce
Croydon’s Town Centre Taskforce is making our borough cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone.
The taskforce is made up of key statutory, community and voluntary sector organisations in the borough, who will work together to clean up litter hotspot areas and deal with antisocial behaviour.
It includes the council, local businesses, police, children’s and youth engagement services, the community, voluntary and health sectors, and homeless and rough sleepers’ support teams.
They taskforce partnership swiftly acts on concerns in the town centre to ensure residents, businesses and people in the borough can feel safe.

Taskforce operations
Here are some examples of the taskforce’s work in and around Croydon town centre.
Keeping our streets cleaner and safer

The taskforce is clearing fly-tipping hotspots and tackling antisocial behaviour, helping to keep our borough cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone. This includes operations in West Croydon station carpark and Factory Lane car park (also known as Pitlake). The passageway between Lamberts Place and Bridge Place, under Windmill Bridge, was cleared after residents reported issues about ongoing issues creating a mess and making it unpleasant for the public to use.
The Council, police, housing and drug and alcohol treatment outreach services engage with those involved in antisocial behaviour to prevent issues from happening again.
Flytip hotspot sites are regularly monitored, and further swift action will be taken to keep those areas clean and safe.
Supporting young women and girls
Croydon-based charity Anima Youth is a key partner in Croydon’s Town Centre Taskforce ensuring they are visible to young people in the area and helping to tackle any issues that may arise.
They support girls and young women to create positive change in their lives and communities.
This is a key part of the Council’s violence against women and girls (VAWG) delivery plan to make Croydon one of the safest boroughs in London for women and girls.
Action to reduce knife crime

The taskforce is supporting a national campaign to get dangerous weapons off Croydon’s streets. People are being encouraged to hand in knives, ninja swords and other weapons safely and anonymously – no questions asked. Handing in a weapon could save a life.

Anyone affected by knife crime can get support through local youth services, mentoring programmes, and community initiatives. Further information can be found here.
Helping hand for rough sleepers
Taskforce partner Change Grow Live is out in the community supporting rough sleepers on their journey to stability.
CGL is the council’s drugs and alcohol treatment service. The team regularly walks around the town centre speaking to people on the streets, listening to them and offering advice about health and care services. They have also supported some people into housing, where they work alongside them to improve their lives.
CGL also runs a mobile service in Croydon on a specially adapted double-decker bus for homeless people and rough sleepers, which has a dentist and barber onboard.
Croydon Reach, also a Taskforce partner, delivers services to engage with and assist rough sleepers. They provide comprehensive support with the aim of getting people settled for longer.
Faster response to incidents
Our Taskforce teams can now better support each other with handheld radios for them to communicate through Croydon Business Improvement District’s (BID) expanding Radio Link scheme. The radios will give more frontline teams instant access to the town centre’s shared communications network, so that they can better respond to live issues, support vulnerable groups and boost safety for businesses and the wider community.

Privacy marking for ATMs
Vibrant yellow floor markings are now outside several banks in Croydon town centre, to help improve privacy and security for anyone using ATMs. The markings create a clear privacy zone around ATMs at Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC and Halifax banks. This prevents crowding and reducing the risk of ‘shoulder surfing’, where someone may attempt to observe another person’s transaction.
