Be healthier with Croydon’s free Live Well service

Residents can now more easily access information to support them to live healthier lives from Croydon’s new Live Well service.

Croydon Council’s free service has been updated to make sure that people in the borough can find top tips to help them to maintain a healthy weight, stop smoking and drink less alcohol – supporting a healthier lifestyle.

The Live Well Croydon website is easy to navigate and also signposts to other useful services such as Croydon Talking Therapies, which can support those experiencing low mood from regularly drinking too much alcohol.

There is a short online health MOT on the Live Well website to kickstart your journey to better health. People can also get one-to-one help during a free 12-week programme with a Live Well Croydon adviser if they are eligible after completing the health MOT. The advisers can support residents over 18 and those registered with a Croydon GP. If you have struggled to make changes in the past, the Live Well programme can help you to succeed – this time for good.

Anyone who would like further information about the Live Well Croydon service can email: livewell@croydon.gov.uk or call the freephone number: 0800 019 8570.

Croydon resident, Ian Robinson, who is 43 and from Purley, received help to stop smoking from a Live Well Croydon adviser. He said: “I am grateful for the help Sarah James gave me on the Live Well scheme. I had been a smoker for 20 years and I was hopeful that this would work as other things I have tried haven’t been successful. I honestly could not have hoped it would work this well!

“I think Sarah’s skills, or at least the skills that helped me most, are her understanding of the products, empathy – when I found it hard to keep going, and her encouragement and good humour as we went along. Also, her patience because my diary meant I had to cancel or miss a couple of sessions without notice. Thank you again Sarah.”

“The Covid-19 pandemic affected our lives and has had a negative impact on many people’s health with the change of routines. The Live Well website and the council’s experienced and friendly advisers are here to help you on your journey to better health, with simple steps and useful information to get you started.”
