Civic service to celebrate multi-faith nature of Croydon

The annual civic service takes place at Croydon Minster on Sunday 27 September.

The Vicar of Croydon, the Reverend Canon Colin Boswell, will welcome the Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Patricia Hay-Justice, who, dressed in full robes, will lead the traditional procession from the minster hall into the minster at 11am.

It is expected that the procession route will be lined by uniformed organisations. The cortege will comprise councillors, chief officers of the council, past mayors and other civic dignitaries. Robed representatives of the judiciary will also process.

Starting at 11.15, the multi-faith service will have a central theme of Inclusivity. All are welcome to attend, but must be seated by 11am.

The Mayor said: “Diversity and inclusivity are fundamental to life in Croydon. It’s important to remember that we’re all different and that diversity and inclusivity should be embraced, valued and celebrated.

“With this in mind, I’d be delighted to see the event supported by representatives of all our local communities.”
