Come and find out how Croydon is fighting crime

Share your concerns about antisocial behaviour, fly-tipping, rogue traders and hate crime at the Safer Croydon Partnership’s Crime Prevention Day on Saturday 5 October.

The free event, led by Croydon Police and Croydon Neighbourhood Watch, takes place at Royal Russell School, Coombe Lane, from 10am to 2.45pm.

The Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Humayun Kabir, will open the event, which will include police updates on the work being done to tackle violent crime, burglary and cyber scams.

Advice will also be given on how to avoid being conned online and the importance the community can play in crime prevention.

It’s a chance to meet the council’s neighbourhood safety officers and to speak with them about your community safety concerns – from littering to encampments, and to meet with Croydon’s trading standards team for advice on rogue traders, scams and doorstep calling.

You can take a personal stand against hate crime and sign the council’s anti-hate crime pledge The event is also an opportunity to sign up and receive the free property marking kit, Smartwater.

“We have made a commitment to take a public health approach to tackling violence. This means more early help and preventative care in childhood, working together with our community to help stop crime and giving greater recognition to children’s emotional health and wellbeing,” she said.

Wave Trust will share its work, which also seeks to help prevent childhood trauma by making experiences such as youth violence, substance abuse and youth suicide a national public health priority.

Croydon’s Safer Neighbourhood Chair, Donna Murray, will also highlight the importance of community engagement in crime prevention, while Croydon’s mediation service will be on hand to give free advice on resolving neighbourhood disputes.
