Dumping a fridge, fly-tipping fence panels and urinating in a car park are among offences that have landed another five people with prosecutions under the council’s Don’t Mess With Croydon clampdown.
At Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13 March, the following four people were prosecuted:
1. John Orison-Tay, aged 46, of Harewood Road in Croydon, was ordered to pay a total of £734 for urinating in West Croydon railway station car park on 6 September 2017.
2. Nick Shelton-Braam, of Shoreham Close in Croydon, was ordered to pay a total of £734 for fly-tipping a black rubbish bag by the garages in Shoreham Close on 21 August 2017.
3. Robert Virgil Motrun, aged 39, of Wilton Road in Redhill, Surrey, was ordered to pay a total of £734 for dropping a cigarette in North End, Croydon, on 4 August 2017.
4. Jane Nassiwa, of Norbury Avenue in Norbury, was ordered to pay a total of £180 for fly-tipping a fridge on the grass verge in Norbury Avenue on 14 August 2017.
At a separate case on Friday 9 March at Croydon Magistrates’ Court, Amin Heidari-Fard, of Foxcombe in New Addington, was ordered to pay a total of £668 for fly-tipping fence panels, a rubbish bag and a cardboard box in Foxcombe on 18 July 2017.
The council launched its Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride campaign in summer 2014, which combines getting local people to become community champions with enforcement against the worst offenders. As well as prosecuting 195 people in court, the council has also seized over 30 vehicles suspected of being used to store or dump fly-tipping, and signed up 345 community champions who lead litter picks.
