Croydon’s small businesses to benefit from further support

Croydon businesses can now benefit from a free one-year membership with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) thanks to a partnership between Croydon Council and FSB.

The latest initiative in the Love Croydon, shop local campaign, the free memberships will provide local firms with access to resources and advice on topics such as law, finance and HR, networking opportunities, webinars and events, to help them develop and grow.

Knowing how hard the pandemic has hit businesses and to support Croydon’s economic recovery, the council is paying for memberships to support self-employed and small businesses in the borough, helping them to recover from the impact of the past two years.

Vee Roberts, of Croydon based businesses Insight2Marketing and InspireUrBiz, a FSB member and a FSB volunteer dedicating time to support small businesses by hosting monthly Croydon virtual networking events, said:

“I started my business over nine years ago and I’ve always valued the power of networking. Joining the FSB was a prime opportunity to give back, network and have access to a multitude of member benefits. I recommend networking events to my clients, whilst also attending and hosting events myself.

“I know what it’s like when you start out alone. I started my business, Insight2Marketing, on just £100 after being made redundant and it was an exciting and daunting time – exciting as I can focus on doing what I love, daunting as there are always so many new things to learn! FSB provides support in all areas essential for small businesses. From employment legislation to debt recovery advice, their online support and events help keep me up-to-date on relevant policy changes, build brand awareness and allow me to connect with businesses who offer complimentary services to mine.”

Interested business owners can email: economicdevelopment@croydon.gov.uk to take up the offer.

“As part of Croydon’s recovery from the pandemic we are working to ensure that funding is made available to support our much-loved businesses.

“This initiative is part of our Love Croydon Shop Local campaign and the wider package of support being delivered by the council to support local businesses and encourage residents and visitors to shop with them whenever they can.”

Councillor Manju Shahul-Hameed, cabinet member for communities, safety and business recovery

Michael Lassman, FSB London Regional Chair said: “Community is more important than ever and small business owners are at the heart of every community.

“FSB is pleased to see Croydon Council include free FSB membership to support the borough’s small businesses achieve their ambitions and ensure their voice is heard.

“We look forward to welcoming and helping Croydon’s small businesses”
