Don’t forget to nominate for the Mayor’s Civic Awards

There is only a week left to nominate your community heroes for a 2020 Mayor of Croydon Civic Award.

Nominations are being sought for outstanding foster carers, the very best neighbours, exceptional volunteers and the most supportive voluntary groups; ahead of the awards which celebrate the achievements and dedication of amazing local people.

Inspirational individuals, groups and businesses can be nominated in 10 categories, including a new category for 2020, Charity of the Year.

All entries must be submitted by midnight Wednesday 15 January and the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony on Tuesday 31 March 2020.

The full list of categories is:

• Business in the Community
• Charity of the Year
• Contribution to Sport and Healthy Living
• Don’t Mess with Croydon – Take Pride
• Good Neighbour
• Outstanding Contribution to Foster Care
• Stronger Together
• Young Achiever
• Volunteer of the Year
• Voluntary Group of the Year

The Mayor’s Lifetime Contribution Award, which recognises a resident or group that has devoted many years of outstanding service to the community, will also be presented at the ceremony.

Last year, the award went to Kim Bennett who for almost 20 years was instrumental in growing and developing Croydon Drop In (CDI), a local charity that provides young people aged 11-25 with free and confidential counselling, advice and advocacy services.

“We know there are lots of unsung heroes in Croydon whose contribution to the community should be celebrated. With just a week left to go before nominations close for the Civic Awards, don’t miss your chance to not only say thank you, but give these incredibly selfless people the recognition they deserve.”

Councillor Humayun Kabir, Mayor of Croydon
