A two-day public exhibition will detail new plans to improve the look and feel of the area around Croydon Minster.
The project aims to restore the Minster’s status as the historic core of Croydon, by redesigning and enhancing the public space surrounding the Grade I listed building.
The exhibition, which is open for all to attend, is taking place at 136 Church Street – opposite the Minster’s west entrance – on Friday 15 March, between 3pm and 7pm, and Sunday 17 March between 11am and 2pm.
Visitors attending Sunday’s session will also be able to take part in a 30-minute heritage walk which begins at 1pm.
Plans for the area could include creating a new public space in front of the Minster which will be able to accommodate a variety of activities, improving the crossroads of two main pedestrian and cycle routes, and incorporating the Minster as a stop on the borough’s heritage trail.
Minster Green and St John’s Memorial Gardens – the two areas of green space on either side of the Minster – will be upgraded and play facilities could also be provided within the memorial gardens.
The project is one of a number of improvements under way as part of the wider redevelopment of the town centre, which aims to help create a more attractive and vibrant area for residents and visitors to enjoy.
