Croydon residents have just under two weeks left to have their say on how the borough’s growth to 2039 should be managed through its updated Local Plan.
Based on government methodology, up to 46,040 homes are needed within the borough between now and 2039.
To encourage as many residents as possible to give their views on how these should be delivered, the council has extended the original 13 January deadline to 20 January.
This first stage of the Local Plan review consultation focuses on three spatial strategies, sites and planning policies, all of which are necessary to correctly manage the delivery of homes, jobs and community facilities over the next two decades.
Residents can also answer questions on each of the 16 places in the borough to help shape their local area, plus give suggestions on how best to respond to the borough’s climate emergency declared last July.
“Croydon will change and grow over the coming decades, and the council wants to ensure this happens in a sustainable way while delivering the homes, jobs and infrastructure that local people need.
“The Local Plan is an important framework to deliver this sustainable growth, and we consult a huge range of people from residents to community groups and businesses so the plan reflects local priorities. If you live, work or spend time in the borough, now is the time to have your say on the updated Local Plan.”

Once the consultation closes, the results will be analysed and will inform the next stage of the review process, which is working up the council’s preferred option. This will then be consulted on in late 2020 before being publicly examined in spring 2021, with adoption taking place in 2022.
