New partnership delivers highway improvements

A new long-term partnership securing further improvements to the road network in Croydon while offering unique opportunities and benefits to residents will begin in October.

Croydon Council will work alongside FM Conway Ltd over the next seven years to provide highways improvements and maintenance.

Apprenticeships and work placements for Croydon residents will be available and jobs will be advertised in the borough before being offered to the wider public.

Alongside this there will be funding to help community projects, days set aside for community volunteering, training days for small companies and a commitment to employ applicants from priority groups and support those with disabilities.

The contract will run for seven years with an option to extend the partnership by up to three years.

The contract will have a maximum value of £130m if it runs for the full 10 years.

James Tallon, term maintenance director at FM Conway, said: “This contract win is testament to our expertise and strong position within the London market. It’s an exciting time to be working and living in Croydon which, as the Mayor of London’s first ‘Growth Zone’, is set to see significant investment in transport infrastructure and public spaces in the coming years.

“Our focus will be on supporting the Council’s ambitious regeneration programme, bringing our extensive expertise as a partner to London’s boroughs to bear to deliver services innovatively and efficiently in a way that maximises investment and ultimately improves the experience of road users in Croydon.

“The long-term nature of the partnership provides the ideal opportunity for us to continue investing in our people, materials infrastructure and technology.

“Our existing Croydon asphalt plant provides a major advantage, allowing us to get material to site quickly and minimising vehicle movements on the road.”

“This new partnership will offer unique opportunities for our residents while delivering highway improvements.

“This contract will secure maintenance for our road network for years to come, keeping our highways to an excellent, safe and reliable standard.

“I welcome FM Conway’s commitment to offering jobs and opportunities to the borough’s residents. By supporting them into work and engaging proactively with the local community it won’t just be Croydon’s roads benefiting from this partnership.”
