Notice of EU elections posted

The elections for the European Parliament will take place on Thursday 23 May. The notice of an election was posted yesterday, Monday 15 April.

Residents from EU member states who want to vote in the UK need to register to do so. They can choose to vote either in the UK or their home country but cannot vote in both.

UK residents who have already registered to vote do not need to do so again. Anyone who needs to register to vote should visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday 7 May.

Croydon Council is writing to the borough’s 23,000 EU residents individually to make sure they know they would need to register to vote in the UK’s elections.

The deadline to register for a postal vote is Wednesday 8 May and the deadline for proxy vote applications is Wednesday 15 May.

The elections will take place on Thursday 23 May. If the UK leaves the EU before that date the elections will not take place.

The vote will be verified and counted on Sunday 26 May.

Visit www.croydon.gov.uk/democracy/dande/elections for more information on the elections.

“It’s important anyone who wants to vote in the May elections has a chance to do so.

“We’re writing to all our residents from EU member states to make sure they know how to vote either in the UK or their home country. Anyone who needs to register to vote must do so by Tuesday 7 May.”
