Share your views – Croydon’s plan to tackle violence against women and girls

Croydon Council is asking residents who have used domestic abuse and sexual violence services in the borough to give feedback on the support available through a new survey.

All feedback will be used to help develop its Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Delivery Plan. This new plan will outline how the council will work with partners including the police, health, education and social care to provide the right support, at the right time, to women and girls at risk of or experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence and VAWG in Croydon.

The plan will also highlight how the council and its partners will be addressing a wide range of gender-based violence – harmful acts directed at an individual based on their gender – including things that can be done to make women feel safer on streets and transport in the borough.

Opportunities to work with communities to raise awareness and promote support within key areas such as schools and GP surgeries will also be included.

Experiences and views are sought on the council’s domestic abuse service, the Family Justice Service (FJS), as well as the awareness of support options available from voluntary and charity organisations in Croydon.

Professionals from organisations such as police, probation, health, education, and voluntary and charity sectors are also asked to give their views in a separate survey.

Feedback will be used to help improve services and address barriers to accessing services across the borough. Views will also be used in the development of the plan which is expected to be presented to cabinet in March.

The surveys are available on the council website until 11.59pm, Sunday 24 March.

Jason Perry

“I’m pleased that we are developing this important plan to show the importance and commitment to tackling violence against women and girls and to make Croydon a safer place to live.

“The strategy will detail how we plan to work with our voluntary and community partners to provide victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence with the support they need, when they need it.

“To do this, it’s essential we hear from those who have experience of the services, to tell us if anything isn’t working as expected or if there are any barriers to accessing the services that we can try to remove. Please do take the time to complete the survey.”
