The next phase of improvement works to enhance the street scene in South Norwood get under way on Monday.
The programme of works will be carried out at Market Parade on Portland Road, to create a more pleasant environment and start as works to nearby Station Road near completion.
Improvements include the removal of old street furniture, new paving and kerbs and the installation of trees and public seating. The upgrade works form part of a £1.65m project to improve the area, which also includes new wayfinding signage to key destinations in and around South Norwood.
The project, which is part of the Delivering for Croydon programme aims to improve the streets, squares and open spaces across the borough.
Parking bays and bus stops close to the works site will be temporarily suspended while construction work is carried out to keep the area safe.

“Local councillors and residents have for some time campaigned for improvements in South Norwood.
“I am really pleased the first stage of public realm enhancements – which are part of these upgrade works – are coming to an end and the focus will now be on Market Parade. These improvements will enhance South Norwood, making it a more attractive place for both residents and visitors and I look forward to seeing the end result.”
