Croydon Council is working with the Met Police and other partners to successfully protect residents from antisocial behaviour and criminal activity in their neighbourhoods.
On Monday 23 June, the Council’s antisocial behaviour enforcement team obtained a premises closure order against a Council tenant living in Whitehorse Road, Thornton Heath.
The closure order was granted by Croydon Magistrates Court after the court heard evidence of serious crime and antisocial behaviour caused by the tenant.
The behaviour included loud shouting and music, intimidation, harassment, verbal abuse and aggressive behaviour, visitors ringing the buzzer of other residents at various times of the day and night and causing alarm and distress to neighbours. There were also claims of vandalism, criminal damage, prostitution, violence towards women and dealing and smoking drugs.
The resident was excluded from their property for an initial period of three months when the Council will seek possession of the property to evict the tenant. The alleged criminal activity has also been reported to the police.
Croydon takes a zero-tolerance approach to residents causing antisocial behaviour and will take action on reports.
Croydon works with Change Grow Live, the substance misuse service, SLAM and other partner organisations to offer support to those who are willing to engage and turn their lives around.
This partnership approach aligns with the Executive Mayor’s Business Plan, which commits to improving housing quality and making Croydon a place residents are proud to call home.
“We take a zero-tolerance approach to tenants causing misery to their neighbours and will take decisive action against perpetrators.
“Nobody should have to suffer from disturbances in their neighbourhoods. We ask Council tenants to report any concerns and we will work with our partners to address the issues.”
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
