It was great to see the hoardings up and work starting during my visit to Regina Road, together with Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Lynne Hale (pictured). This regeneration project will deliver at least 225 new council homes. I am committed that these will be high-quality properties that our residents can be proud to call home. We will continue to work closely with residents on plans for the future of the estate, ahead of the formal planning design being submitted. Find out more.

Cleaner Croydon

We are just three weeks into our new and enhanced waste contract with Veolia. This is an improved contract with new road sweeping in residential areas, graffiti removal, nighttime economy cleans and improved waste collections for flats above shops. I apologise for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling of rounds, and I assure you that everything will settle down soon. I visited Veolia’s depot this week and met with crews to find out how they are getting on with the new contract and the changes. Our residents can expect to see the benefits of this new contract within the coming months, as part of my commitment to making Croydon cleaner and restoring pride in our borough.

Primary school places

There was great news this week for parents and carers whose children have been allocated a reception place for September. The percentage of parents or carers receiving one of their top three preference primary schools was 96.5%, whilst 86.7% of children received their first choice. It is all part of our work to make Croydon a place where all children and young people can fulfil their potential at our local schools. Don’t forget to accept or decline a place by 30 April. Palace for Life

I was delighted to attend the music video premiere of ‘Glad All Over’ – Crystal Palace Football’s Club’s anthem reimagined by the DS Eagles, young people with Down syndrome. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and fun as they celebrated their achievements through Palace for Life’s DS GAME ON. Recorded just minutes from Selhurst Park, the song aims to challenge stereotypes around Down syndrome and employment and raise funds for the charity’s work.

Spring celebrations

I was honoured to take part in the Vaisakhi event, at Braithwaite Hall on Tuesday, organised by the Sikh community celebrating spring harvest.

I would also like to wish a Happy Tamil New Year (Puthandu) to our community who celebrated on Monday.

Finally, wishing a very Happy Easter to our residents celebrating on Sunday. I hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend.
