Update on council budget setting

Croydon Council will be holding a further council meeting to set its budget for 2023-24.

This follows last night’s meeting of the Full Council, where councillors considered the Executive Mayor’s budget proposals for the next financial year.

Members voted against the proposals 37-34.

The Executive Mayor will now consider the feedback from council ahead of the next Full Council meeting on 8 March, where he will set out his response and if necessary, revisions for consideration at that meeting.

On 8 March, members will be required to set a budget by law. At that meeting they can adopt the Executive Mayor’s proposals by a simple majority. If councillors wish to amend the Executive Mayor’s proposals further, this will require a two thirds majority to approve.
