The Regina Road redevelopment took an important step forward when Croydon’s planning committee reviewed the current proposals at the last pre-application meeting, ahead of submitting the final plans for the estate.

The meeting last week, which was open to the public and available to watch online, allowed councillors to examine the plans, provide feedback, and raise any concerns before the formal application is submitted in the summer. The committee gave positive feedback and shared useful ideas on things that need to be looked at before the final submission.

The updated plans have been shaped thanks to feedback from local residents as well as the design team which includes designers, landscape architects, planning, travel and environmental consultants.

The redevelopment project will involve replacing the existing blocks with new homes and is part of the Executive Mayor of Croydon Jason Perry’s commitment to building high-quality properties that residents can be proud to call home.

This regeneration will deliver at least 225 new council homes, green spaces, a preschool, and community facilities. The Council will continue to work closely with residents on plans for the future of the estate ahead of the formal planning submission.

At the same time, the demolition of the first tower block, 1-87 Regina Road, is underway and is expected to be completed by the autumn.

Award-winning contractor Colemans, who are managing the demolition, have prepared the site including wrapping the building to minimise noise, dust, and vibration levels throughout. Residents will continue to receive regular updates as the work progresses.

Colemans are also committed to supporting the local community, offering apprenticeships, work experience, and local employment opportunities during the project.

“I am pleased to see the Regina Road plans moving forward. We have been listening to residents and thank everyone who has contributed their views to help shape the future of the estate.

“This regeneration is about more than replacing buildings; it is about creating homes residents can feel proud of and ensuring their voices are part of the process. We are investing in the future of this community, delivering on our promises, and building a better standard of living for everyone.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
