Let’s get physical at leisure centre open days

Croydonians are being invited to explore some of the borough’s leisure centres for free on various dates in September and October, to encourage residents to get fit and active.

The open days are taking place at Purley Leisure Centre on Saturday 5 September, Thornton Heath on 22 September, and New Addington on 20 October.

Visitors will be able to try out the gym equipment, have a dip in the pool or take part in an exercise class, to find out more about what membership of their local leisure centre has to offer.  The council has five leisure centres in total, and further open days at other sites are planned in future.

The council also offers detailed health and lifestyle advice through its Just Be Croydon website, which provides support to stop smoking, eat healthier and drink less. Visitors to the website can also undertake a five-minute Health MOT, which offers practical tips on living better for longer.

“Whether people are 16 or 60, active healthy lifestyles are at the very heart of our Just Be Croydon campaign. Exercise doesn’t have to be a chore, there are activities to suit everyone – so I encourage people to drop in to their local leisure centre to have a swim or use the gym.”
